Version 1.0.2 fixes the TV build. Android TV has no Chrome, so 1.0.0 fell back to a plain browser: a URL
bar, a mouse pointer, and a D-pad that moved that pointer instead of the game. 1.0.1 runs the game in its own
full-screen view with no browser chrome. 1.0.2 also declares the INTERNET permission, which 1.0.1 omitted —
with no browser to borrow the connection from, that build could not load the game at all and showed
“Webpage not available / net::ERR_CACHE_MISS”. Install it over the old one — same signing key, so
Android upgrades it in place and the saved records are kept.
Updating it
There are two layers, and only one of them ever needs your attention.
- Game content updates by itself. The app loads the live game, so new stages, fixes and tuning appear
in every installed copy as soon as they are published — there is nothing to download. When a new
build is detected, the game shows a "A new build is ready" bar with a Reload button; tap it, or
simply close the app and open it again.
- The app shell changes rarely. Only a new icon, banner, TV declaration or permission needs a new APK
file. When that happens, download it again from this page and install it over the old one — it is
signed with the same key, so Android upgrades it in place and keeps the game's saved records.
- Because the app is installed from a link rather than a store, Android cannot update it
silently the way a Play Store app updates itself. If you ever want true background updates, the app would
need to be published on Google Play (a one-off developer account and a review).
If it ever looks like an older build: close the app completely and open it again. The first launch after
an update swaps in the new version. If it still looks old, open the game in a browser once, or reinstall from
the button above.
Playing it
- TV: the D-pad steers, OK starts, the media play/pause key and Back pause, and OK fires a bomb while a mushroom charge is live (the count is shown at the bottom left). The maze keeps a 5% margin so the edge of the screen never cuts it off.
- Phone: drag anywhere on the board to steer, tap to start, two fingers or the pause button at the top right to pause. The bomb button sits at the bottom left and fills up when you eat a mushroom. Hold the phone in landscape.
- Ten stages, an original chiptune soundtrack. The same build runs in a browser at
bright-pocket-ppx8.here.now.
What it is
- Signed, so Android installs it without complaints.
- Declares a Leanback launcher activity and a TV banner, so it appears on the TV home row instead of hiding.
- The website publishes a Digital Asset Links file for this app's signing certificate, so Android runs it full screen rather than in a browser tab with a URL bar.
